Part of Portugal's charm lies in its gastronomy. From the most typical Portuguese restaurants to Michelin-starred restaurants, the 120km coastline from which to pick the freshest fish and seafood, the Algarve is known for its excellent restaurants.
The locals do not have a restaurant of choice: they know the one that best makes the dish that wants to have lunch or dinner that day.
It is difficult or impossible to be poorly served in the Algarve, but here are our suggestions.
Estaminé
Have you ever dreamed of dining on a deserted island, taken by a private boat? This is your opportunity. Located on the island of Deserta, enjoy a dinner with a unique view.
Flor do Arneiro
Be a fan of meat or fish, here you find them made with dedication and affection. Just outside Faro, a gastronomic treasure not to be missed. Try the Puntillitas à Algarvia!
Pitéu da baixa mar
On the Marginal of Olhão, opposite the Market, excellent seafood, excellent meat and excellent combination! Try the Pitéu à Terra e Mar (roughly translates to Delicacy from Land and Sea)
O Castelo
Fantastic terrace in the historic area of Faro, overlooking the Ria Formosa, accompanied by snacks, cocktails or even a full meal. Try the champagne sangria, it's divine!
Américo, o Rei do Peixe Assado
Do not be fooled by the casual look and the friendly and cheeky way of the employees: here you will find the freshest grilled fish. Take a full appetite to this restaurant on the EN125 at the entrance of Olhão, you can eat as much as you want and pay the same small fee!
Faaron
Magnificent steakhouse in downtown Faro. Do not pass the starter of deep fried Camembert with red berries compote, it is delicious!
Café Aliança
In downtown Faro, it maintains the tradition of cafe-restaurants, both in service and in architecture and decoration.
